what a solana priority fee is, simply

A priority fee is an optional extra you pay on a Solana transaction so the validator puts it ahead of others. Every transaction also pays a base fee of 5,000 lamports per signature. The priority fee goes 100% to the validator, and both are charged even if the transaction fails.

the two fees on every transaction

FeePaid byWhere it goes
Base feeevery transaction, 5,000 lamports per signaturehalf burned, half to the validator
Priority feeoptional, 0 unless you set itall to the validator

A lamport is 0.000000001 SOL, so the base fee is 0.000005 SOL per signature. That part is tiny. The priority fee is the one you choose, and the one that can get big.

what it buys you

A higher priority fee makes it more likely the validator schedules you before other transactions. It makes a spot more likely, not certain, and it does not change the price you get.

the part that costs people

So a big priority fee on a buy that keeps failing is money gone each time. If it keeps failing, check slippage first.

It's the PRIO field in the settings panel, with a default of 0.001, and Axiom calculates a recommended value for you. Where the field is: priority fee on Axiom. The other payment in that panel is the Bribe, which is a tip to the validator on top: what a Jito tip is.

What does Axiom actually charge?

Platform fee starts at 1% of the fill, plus priority you set, plus impact. A referral is a fee cut on the account if the field shows the code. Gas is separate.

I swapped on Axiom and the token is gone

Check the tx on a Solana explorer first. Destination address and mint are the ground truth. Then enable that mint in the wallet. Do not swap again to find it.
