metamask's referral prompt on hyperliquid, and using a different code
Right after you connect MetaMask to Hyperliquid, MetaMask's side panel shows a box already ticked: "Apply a MetaMask referral code to all future trades". Untick it before you press Confirm, then put a code on the account yourself, through a join link or the referrals page. Any Hyperliquid referral code takes 4% off your fees for your first $25M of volume, so MetaMask's code and ours save you the same, and the box only decides who is paid. What costs you more is a builder fee: MetaMask's in-wallet perps charge 0.1432% taker at the entry level, against 0.0432% at Hyperliquid's base tier with any referral code.
using a different code
- Connect MetaMask on Hyperliquid.
- In MetaMask's side panel, untick "Apply a MetaMask referral code to all future trades" before you press Confirm.
- Accept Hyperliquid's terms. MetaMask then asks for a signature whose type is "Hyperliquid:AcceptTerms". That is the terms, not a referral.
- Deposit first (where deposit is on hyperliquid), then enter a code on the referrals page: with nothing deposited, its Enter Code window shows only a "Need to Deposit" button. The other route is the join link below.
Untick it only if you do step 4. With no code at all you pay the full fee.
Or skip MetaMask's panel entirely: Hyperliquid's Connect window lists "Log in with Email" above the wallets. What the email flow asks for after that window is not covered here.
what the prompt is
It is MetaMask's, not Hyperliquid's. Right after you connect MetaMask to Hyperliquid, Hyperliquid opens its terms window, and at the same time MetaMask's side panel shows "Save 4% on Hyperliquid" with one box already ticked: "Apply a MetaMask referral code to all future trades per Hyperliquid's terms. MetaMask earns a fee." The box can be unticked, and Confirm stays available.
what you get either way
A referral code is 4% off your fees for your first $25M of volume. Hyperliquid attaches that to using a code, not to whose code it is. MetaMask's saves you exactly what ours does.
The difference is who gets paid: MetaMask's code earns MetaMask a fee, and ours earns us a commission.
the builder fee is the part that costs you
An app that sends your orders charges a builder fee, on top of Hyperliquid's own fee. Hyperliquid caps it at 0.1% on perps and 1% on spot. For each builder, you approve a maximum, your main wallet signs that approval, and you can revoke it at any time. Hyperliquid makes the approved maximum available through the API, and doesn't say where the app shows it.
MetaMask's in-wallet perps, which run on Hyperliquid, list 0.1432% taker and 0.1144% maker at Rewards levels 1 to 3, and for anyone not opted in to Rewards. Hyperliquid's base tier with any referral code is 0.0432% taker and 0.0144% maker. Both gaps are exactly 0.1%, the builder-fee cap. MetaMask does not split its total; that arithmetic is ours.
On a $10,000 perp opened and closed with market orders, that is $28.64 in taker fees inside MetaMask and $8.64 on Hyperliquid with a code.
No screen in the MetaMask connect flow asks for a builder fee approval. The box it ticks in advance is the referral code.
what hyperliquid doesn't say
Whether unticking and confirming leaves you with no code, and whether you can still add one after. did the code attach has the check.
If you're new to Hyperliquid, the link below is our referral link.
Using this code takes 4% off your Hyperliquid fees for your first $25M of volume, which trading without a code does not. We get a commission from Hyperliquid, which helps support our work, at no extra cost to you. We might add tools for people who used our code.
Tapping the button puts APEBRIEF on your clipboard and opens Hyperliquid. Where the signup shows a code field, paste it there.
