# lighter referral code: apebrief, and the free premium week

Our Lighter referral code is apebrief. Sign up through our link and your first week of Premium is free: the trading fees you pay that week come back to you in USDC every Monday, on your first $10M of volume. The link carries the code, so there is nothing to type.

The code only counts at sign-up. Lighter's attribution is permanent: once a code is used at sign-up, it can't be changed or added later.

Already on Lighter without a code? A Lighter account is a wallet, so connect a new wallet through our link and make its first deposit. That opens a new account with the code on it.

## what the link does

Open it logged out and Lighter shows a "You're invited!" box with "Invite code apebrief", a line saying the referral code will be used after login, and two buttons, Connect Wallet and Maybe later.

1. Press Connect Wallet and connect the wallet you'll trade from.
2. Make a first deposit. Until then there is no account: the positions panel reads "NO ACCOUNT YET" and says your first deposit opens one. [how to deposit on lighter](/lighter/deposit/) has the window.
3. Sign the two messages Lighter asks for, then pick an account type. The free week is Premium.

## what the free week is worth

Standard accounts already trade at 0 maker / 0 taker on perps and spot. The only fee there is the 0.01% on RFQ, Chase, Iceberg and TWAP orders. Limit and market orders cost nothing, so on Standard there is little to rebate.

So the week matters if you pick Premium, or use those advanced orders. Premium starts at 0.0040% maker and 0.0280% taker. A $10,000 position opened and closed with market orders is $20,000 of taker volume, which is $5.60 in fees, and in the trial week that comes back to you.

- **When it's paid.** Every Monday, as an L2 transfer, covering Monday 00:00 UTC to Sunday 23:59 UTC of the week before. Payouts start at $1.
- **When it starts.** At sign-up, when the code is used, not when you first trade.
- **The cap.** Fees on your first $10M of volume, maker and taker both counted.
