# hyperliquid referral code: the 4% discount and how to add it

A Hyperliquid referral code cuts 4% off your fees for your first $25M of volume. Our code is APEBRIEF. Enter it on the referrals page after your first deposit and before your first fill, or come through a join link, which does the same thing.

## making it stick

Deposit before you enter the code. On an account with nothing deposited, the referrals page's Enter Code window has no code field, only a "Need to Deposit" button.

1. Sign up with email ("Log in with Email" heads Hyperliquid's Connect window) or with a wallet, on the account you will actually trade from. Sub-accounts and vaults are excluded from the discount, so the code has to sit on the account that places the orders.
2. Deposit. [where deposit is on hyperliquid](/hyperliquid/deposit/) covers the button and what it accepts; [which chain to send from](/hyperliquid/bridge/) is its own page.
3. Open Referrals, press Enter Code and type APEBRIEF, before your first fill.

The other route is a join link, like the one below.

## the size of it, in dollars

For a $10,000 position that is opened and closed with market orders, at the base perp taker rate of 0.045%:

Thirty-six cents. Use it anyway, because it costs you nothing and it is the only free thing on the screen. But anyone selling you their code as a reason to pick a venue is describing $0.36.

## where the discount does not apply

- **Sub-accounts and vaults.** Hyperliquid treats them as separate accounts, so the code doesn't cover them.
- **Apps built on Hyperliquid.** They can add a builder fee, up to 0.1% on perps and 1% on spot. If your fee looks high on one of them, check that first.
- **Past $25M of your volume.** The discount ends there.
