# how to buy crypto on kraken: card or bank transfer

Two routes: Buy with a Visa or Mastercard card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or a bank transfer into your cash balance and a Buy with that. Kraken asks for a verified account first, and a card buy can hold withdrawals for up to 72 hours. Kraken describes no P2P route.

## before either

Verify your account. Kraken requires it so you can buy with cash and add a card. Card and digital-wallet purchases can hold withdrawals for up to 72 hours, which matters if you plan to withdraw to a wallet right after.

## by card

1. **Buy**, on the right of your account home.
2. Pick the asset and type the amount.
3. Under **Pay With**, pick your card, or **Add payment method** and add one. It has to be in your verified legal name.
4. **Buy**. The confirmation screen shows the price, the fees and the total.
5. Pass 3D Secure, then **Confirm**. Purchases are final.

The fee is a displayed fee plus a spread built into the price; Kraken puts the trading fee on Instant Buy at a fixed 1%. The total shows on the confirmation screen. Your card issuer can add its own fees, and some issuers block crypto payments. Card limits move with your account and reset weekly. You get four tries to save a card in 30 days. If the card is charged and no crypto arrives, Kraken voids the charge within two hours.

## bank transfer, then buy

1. **Deposit**, pick your currency, then a deposit method.
2. Copy Kraken's bank details into your bank's transfer. Don't type them by hand.
3. If the instructions show a reference, add your Kraken Public account ID, the one that starts with AA.
4. Send from a bank account in your own name, above the minimum, not through a third-party payment processor. Don't repeat the same amount within 72 hours.
5. Once it lands, **Buy** and pay with your cash balance.

## once it's bought

To trade it on-chain, withdraw it to a wallet: [withdraw from kraken to a wallet](/exchanges/kraken-withdraw/) has the network, memo, fee and minimum, and [from an exchange to on-chain](/exchanges/to-onchain/) has where it goes next.

## related questions

- **How do I withdraw from Kraken to my wallet?** Add and confirm the address first, then pick the network your wallet receives on. A memo or tag only if the receiving side shows one. The fee and minimum depend on the network; the final fee shows when you confirm.
- **How do I get crypto from an exchange onto Solana, Hyperliquid or Robinhood Chain?** Buy on the exchange, withdraw to your own wallet on the network your next stop uses, then trade there. SOL on Solana for Axiom, Photon or Jupiter. USDC on Arbitrum for Hyperliquid, unless the exchange sends there directly. ETH on Ethereum, then bridged, for Robinhood Chain.
- **How do I send crypto from an exchange to my own wallet?** Copy the address from the wallet's receive screen and pick the network the wallet showed you, not the cheapest one. A memo is only for a receiving side that asks for one. Send a small amount first, then the rest.
- **I withdrew from Kraken on the wrong network. Can I get it back?** Not from Kraken once it's sent: its help says crypto withdrawals aren't reversible. On your own 0x wallet on another EVM chain it's at the same address there; at another exchange, ask that exchange with the TxID.
